Get to Know Your Hypnotist – Part 2: Wally’s Wild & Wonderful Experiences

Did you miss Part 1 of this Q&A series with our hypnotist, Wally Post? Read it here.

Q: Here’s a big question for a hypnotist: have you ever been hypnotized yourself?

WALLY POST: Yes, a few years back when I joined a group of hypnotists in Indianapolis, I went to see them for a few sessions in the area of weight loss. So yes, I have had the other side of that experience as well.

Wally can be heard on radio hour with Mitch on WHBU Indiana once each quarter. In 2019, he hosted his own 12-week evening radio spot on that station called “Exploring Hypnosis” and enjoyed the experience.

I am very hypnotizable in terms of reaching the mental state of hypnosis, but I don’t consider myself a great subject when it comes to receiving suggestion. Some individuals have high suggestibility and can take a suggestion easily as a reality; for me that visualization and acceptance are not as strong, and it’s something I still have to develop in myself.

I am maybe my own worst critic because I know what I can measure against. But I keep these self-hypnosis skills ready and benefit from them. Anyone can do that if they are motivated!

Q: What client break-through or success story has meant the most to you so far? What stories do you remember often?

WALLY POST: There are so many of them, it’s hard to choose!

One lady I worked with for many years, who has done a testimonial for me, she came in wanting to stop leaving things unfinished – sports, projects, all that. She was self-sabotaging. I started working with her, and she wound up running many races and marathons, some at Disney World, completing them well. She put all the medals around her neck and was very proud of the picture I took.

She also had a fear of snakes, and I helped her overcome that so she could run outside on trails. That was helpful, too.

I had another lady in a hyperactive mind state who couldn’t sleep for nearly a week, even with her doctor’s medications. I have helped many folks like this since COVID, but I remember her clearly because it had been so long since she had rested.

She was in bad condition. She couldn’t make decisions, she was scattered, she was unable to move forward in life generally, not even able to choose what to wear. It was almost like its own hypnotic state, a mental state she needed to come out of. By taking her into deeper hypnosis, we were able to move her out of that state and restore her sense of control and calm.

By the end of her first session, she was so ready for sleep. So relaxed. It made a huge difference in her body and demeanor, really everything. It was a great relief for her. I kept training her on how to do this for herself, and she was able to do very well without needing any more medications. She is still doing very well. It’s good to see that healthy change.

When people come to me, I help them with things they can’t do themselves, or that even doctors haven’t managed to do. It really is rewarding to see these positive outcomes in people who have tried so hard before, and are now finally able to achieve them.
