Pain

Hypnosis is likely to be effective for most people suffering from diverse forms of pain. In recent years, the evidence for Hypnosis to decrease sensitivity to pain has been supported by well-controlled experiments. In a 2003 review of clinical studies, it was found that Hypnosis was associated with significant reductions in: ratings of pain, need for pain medication, nausea and vomiting, and length of stay in hospitals. Hypnosis has also been associated with a better overall outcome after medical treatment and greater physiological stability. Hypnotic techniques for the relief of acute pain are superior to standard care, and often better than other recognized treatments for pain. 

Chronic pain, which continues beyond the usual time to recover from an injury, usually involves inter-related psychosocial factors and requires a more complex procedure than that for acute pain. In the case of chronic pain, it has been found that Hypnosis is consistently better than receiving no treatment at all and equivalent to treatments involving relaxation.

Hello Wally!
I attended one session with you last summer in preparation for a presentation I was giving at a university (fear of public speaking). While we were at it, you also addressed my fear of flying.

I have now done two of those presentations at the same university and enjoyed the last one so much that I just accepted a position teaching pathophysiology course for a local college.

For Christmas, I booked a cruise to Alaska for my husband. Going to Alaska was a lifelong dream of his, but since I would not fly, he thought he would never go. Before I say you, I would have never even though about getting on an airplane. Two weeks ago, I did just that and actually did not mind it too much. In fact, we are talking about flying directly into Detchikan next year!
